1) Dig deep

Before even planning and plotting over what you want to manifest, you must dig deep. This especially applies if you are asking and asking for something and you’re just not getting it.

An example is the person who wants an apartment and a job, yet time and time again, despite wishing for both just runs into roadblocks. The message this person is probably sending out is that they don’t really want to be there, or, that they’re just not sure what they want to do or where they want to live. The universe WILL give you everything you desire… it’s just that most people have no clue what exactly it is they want. Be careful what you wish for is a common statement for a reason. You might just get it and it may not be what you wanted after all. Remember EVERYTHING has two sides so explore the possible ‘down sides’ or less appealing aspects of your wish and how it might impact other parts of your life. Sit down, let rip on the honesty and THINK HARD about what you really want. What are those little red flags that keep going up? Don’t ignore them. Pluck them out and study them with a magnifying glass. Like all stuck emotions and fears, the more you honestly explore and release them the more likely they are to dissolve into thin air.

2) Imagine

Having decided what you want, you still aren’t ready to take the plunge. Now IMAGINE exactly how you will be by projecting the ideal into your future. As I’ve already said, what often holds us back is that to know everything that’s going to happen and have it all planned out and set in stone is, well… a little boring. We like mystery and to have the forces of life play out and surprise us in ways we would never have imagined. Is there a way you could focus on one element to manifest and leave the rest up to the professional and ever-knowing laws of nature? Or do you feel a sinking sensation of dread or disappointment when viewing your dream in such a way? Often, the first few times we do this we come up with false dreams, things we don’t really want at all. As we all know of witchcraft, the dangerous side of it can prevail if not respected. Becoming a master of divine timing and having fun with spells or meditative manifestation exercises whilst staying humble is one thing, but forcing it can have tragic effects. Making others fall in love, contacting the dead… etc, unless you know what you are doing these are all big no, no's...

3) The power of three times three so mote it be

One last thing before taking the plunge ask yourself, does it hurt anyone including myself?

This is one hurdle many can never clear, especially when it comes to money as the sensitive among us simply can’t ask for more than we need or feel the entitlement to it. Do you NEED what you are desiring? Are you being greedy and are secretly aware of this? Perhaps this is a block, but also should be an indicator of the right thing to do. If you want to save money to eventually buy a beautiful house and gardens to turn into a meditation centre or foster home will probably compliment your higher self as opposed to buy a second car. Having said that, each to their own and who are any of us to judge what others want, but this is a good rule. If it doesn’t hurt anyone including yourself, then go ahead.

4) Explore

The best ways to manifest for you some do an image board, some repeat a mantra. Some wish for it every night and others conveniently forget about it. The key thing is doing something, but most certainly with an air of detachment. Creatively explore ways to integrate it into your routine. Spells can be a fun and creative way to do this although beware of becoming too attached to little mistakes and the superstitions along the way. Doing this with others can be even more powerful. Meditation may be more your thing, but remember to close any ‘wishes’ or visualizations of getting what you want with a prayer for others – a simple energy reminder and statement of humility to the universe that you are aware you already have all you need, that you are already grateful. I find drawing up a routine with spaces for spontaneity can be an excellent way to manifest things. Just changing your habits and routine and acting as if you already have whatever it is you desire can be the most effective step.

5) Keep going

Keep going, repeating steps one to four until it begins to happen. Often if it’s not happening you’re missing signs from the universe which are opportunities in disguise or still not being completely honest with yourself about what you want. Revise, meditate on your past and any inner voices that may be telling you things that are holding you back. Manifesting can be a huge inner journey, and if done right, can open up all sorts of doors for you. With changes that can be enjoyed for the rest of your life.

Why you need to cleanse your deck.

Think of your Tarot as a tool or a channel for your intuition to communicate to you, so it makes sense that sometimes it might need a refresh a good cleanse works like a reset for both the deck and the reader. A cleanse helps remove any previous energy and intentions. For example, if you were using your deck yesterday and you were feeling sad, or angry, disappointed these are all negative emotions and wouldn't want that energy to hang around in your cards as it can influence a reading. Even if you are only reading for yourself your energy is always changing so when you deliver a reading with a freshly cleansed deck it will always provide a more accurate reflection of your current circumstances.

Best times to cleanse your deck

When you first buy it.  - During the manufacturing process of your deck many hands have touched them especially when being packaged, placed on shelves, handled by customers and cahiers etc. You want to be sure to cleanse all other energies out of the deck before use.

When someone else has handled them  - Eg Clients. It's always a good idea to cleanse your deck before and after a reading, it's also recommended to cleanse your home with sage before and after you have clients, visitors in your home to remove any negative energies as it hangs around like residue and can impact on our own moods.

Before and after a reading - For the best and most accurate results its highly recommended to cleanse your deck before and after every reading, it's always best to start with a good cleanse.

Best ways to cleanse your decks.

Crystals - You can either lay your deck on top of a flat crystal or lay the crystal on top of the deck to cleanse and charge them. Selenite in particular or clear quartz are great for this as well as connecting to your spirit guides. They help keep the energy clear and connected.

Smoke - Hold your deck over a burning sage wand or Incense sticks, wave the deck through the smoke allowing it to waft over them cleansing them. Lavender sage is popular for good clear communication as well as Mugwort is another good choice.

Salt - When your deck is in need of a really good cleansing reset, then place your deck into a bowl of sea salt overnight as this will draw out any negative vibrational energy that may be attached to the cards.

Sunlight - Just like ourselves when we sit in the sun for a short period of time it is enough to help rejuvenate and refresh. Your cards will benefit just by being in fresh air. This can work wonders especially if you are feeling stuck or stagnant with your readings. Be mindful not to leave your cards in the sun for any longer than 10-15 mins at a time as the sun can bleach them leaving them faded.

Moonlight - Placing your deck near your window or outside in direct moonlight (be mindful of the weather) on a night of a full moon and allow the moon to do its thing overnight, just like we would with our crystals and stones to cleanse and recharge them.

Shuffling - Has always been a standard practice before a reading. It helps us to become familiar with our cards. If you have just purchased a new deck and are just getting acquainted with them lay them all out, then mix them up in a chaotic way mixing them well or do a thorough shuffle to reboot them.

Knocking - Have you ever heard of readers "knocking 3 times" on the top and bottom of their decks before use. It's true, this practice is a quick and thorough way of "physically knocking" out stagnant negative energy.

Breath - Our breath is a powerful tool. Simply blowing a deep breath over your deck will essentially blow out any old stuck energy off of them.

Sound - Sound is another wonderful way of cleansing your deck. Bells in particular are a popular sound cleansing tool especially amongst witches. Singing bowls, music, and even your own singing voice works well to cleanse cards.

Programming your cards with Intention. Once your deck is freshly cleansed and recharged ready for use, it's time to set them with Intention. Light a candle, create an intentional space holding the deck in your hands stating the intention out aloud making a verbal declaration. Before each reading state the intention of the reading Eg "as I shuffle this deck, I am about to deliver a reading around my client's career, or love life, or marriage or financial future and I will be pulling xxxx number of cards that will represent the most accurate responses on this topic". Begin the reading.

Taking care of your cards - Treating your decks with love and care will help keep them clear and cleansed longer. Keep them in a specific place on an altar, in a nice box, on a shelf, place a crystal over them. You can wrap them up in a nice piece of fabric. At the end of each day putting them away is a nice way to care for them both physically and energetically. Especially if you have multiple decks of cards definitely have a designated space for them a basket, or decorative box. Remember if you haven't used a deck for a while, be sure to cleanse and recharge them before use to remove all stagnant energy attached to them.

The Major Arcana cards are the most recognizable and impactful cards in a Tarot deck
These 22 cards represent situations we all face in the grand scheme of life, with each carrying specific messages of perspective and guidance to help you in times of need. While the Minor Arcana cards focus on the everyday actions and decisions you must face, these Major Arcana cards reveal messages about the bigger picture of your life and its long-term direction.
Though each of the Major Arcana cards stands alone with its own deep meanings and influences, these 22 Tarot cards also tell a story. The first card, The Fool, is the main character of this story, and his experiences as he learns, grows, and makes his way through life are represented by the 21 cards that follow. This storyline is a great description of the accomplishments, setbacks, and lessons we all learn as we go through the trials and tribulations of our lifetime, growing into whole, complete beings by the end of our journey.

#0 - The Fool

The Fool is the first card in a Tarot deck because he is the most vulnerable of all the Tarot's archetypes. He has not yet experienced the ups and downs of life, leaving him unaware of the magnitude of life's challenges, and the strength and potential he holds. When The Fool comes up in a Tarot reading, you are encouraged to take on his open, willing energy and embrace all that lies ahead of you without worry.

#1 - The Magician

The Magician card is a reminder that you are a unique being and have many gifts that others do not hold. These skills set you apart from the crowd and can help you begin new projects or overcome adversity. When The Magician comes up in your Tarot reading, it's a reminder that you needn't wait -- you already hold everything you need to move forward and accomplish what you've set out to do.

#2 - The High Priestess

The most intuitive, connected card in the whole Tarot deck, The High Priestess is a card of awareness and subconsciousness. This card urges you to listen to your inner voice and to follow your instincts. Your mind knows far, far more than you think it does, and The High Priestess embodies this concept. When she arises in your Tarot reading, stop looking for answers in the outside world and instead, turn within for the guidance you seek.

#3 - The Empress

The Empress is the most feminine card in the Tarot, and greatly encourages compassion, beauty, and love. She is deeply connected to Mother Nature, and her influence is powerful when you absorb the energy of the natural world around you.

#4 - The Emperor

The emperor is a card of leadership and power. He is an authoritative force who has been through many experiences to achieve this status. He represents structure and solidity, and reminds you that you, too, hold immense amounts of power over your own life, and what happens to it.

#5 - The Hierophant

The Hierophant is like a messenger from the heavens. He is experienced in spirituality and guidance, and his job is to bring these lessons down to us here in the real world. When The Hierophant comes up in your Tarot reading, you're encouraged to follow the rules, and to find a spiritual perspective on your current situation.

#6 - The Lovers

It's no surprise The Lovers card represents the close relationships in your life. If it comes up in your Tarot reading, your love life is in need of extra focus and attention. However, this is just as much a card about your values and decisions. You may find The Lovers come up when you are at a crossroads and must consider all the possible consequences of your choices. Learn more about

#7 - The Chariot

The Chariot card is connected to your natural drive and determination and can indicate an upcoming victory. This card reminds you that your greatest successes won't come through limited thinking -- when you combine the knowledge of your mind with that of your heart and spirit, you are an unstoppable force.

#8 - Strength

One of the most obviously named cards in a Tarot deck, Strength is most definitely a card about strength but not physical strength. The Strength card represents the fortitude of your heart, your level of courage, and your ability to withstand anything life hands you. If this card arises in your Tarot reading, you are reminded that you are strong enough to handle whatever you are facing and will come out of it with even more power than you had before.

#9 - The Hermit

The Hermit yearns to be alone. He knows that the only way to process what is happening in life is to withdraw from the noise of the world and create a quiet space of solitude. When The Hermit comes up in your reading, the answers you need will come from within. Be very still, and listen

#10 - Wheel of Fortune

The Wheel of Fortune is constantly revolving sometimes you will be at the top, and sometimes you will be at the bottom. This Tarot card reminds you that nothing is permanent, and, good or bad, you must cherish the lessons that this moment is bringing you.

#11 - Justice

Justice is your firm but fair reminder that karma is real, and there is a consequence for every action. Whatever life is handing you at this moment comes from decisions you've made in the past, and whether it's a punishment or a reward, it is exactly what you deserve. When this card comes up in your Tarot reading, make sure you are acting fairly in all your interactions with others.

#12 - The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man is a card that comes up when you are in limbo. He tells you that sometimes-small sacrifices must be made in order to benefit the bigger picture. When The Hanged Man arises in your reading, you likely want to make a move, but don't even know where to begin. Begin by letting go. Lightening your grip on something that's no longer working for you or detaching from the outcome of your situation can help you release yourself.

#13 - Death

One of the most misunderstood cards in a Tarot deck, Death is not a card about physical death. The Death card speaks of cycles endings, yes, but beginnings too and is a reminder that all things must pass. Hanging on to relationships, feelings, fears, or situations from the past will hinder you from allowing new, better things to enter your life. Take comfort in knowing that in every ending lies a chance for a new beginning.

#14 - Temperance

The Temperance card is a master of moderation. She encourages peace and patience and reminds you to go with the flow of your life instead of trying to force its pace or direction. When Temperance turns up in your Tarot reading, it is a message to take things as they come and remain flexible enough to change with the changes.

#15 - The Devil

The Devil card carries heavy feelings of restraint and powerlessness. When he comes up in your Tarot reading, you are likely feeling like you have no control and are stuck in a situation you don't want to be in. The Devil has convinced you that you have no options, but this couldn't be further from the truth. You are not being trapped by external forces, but by your own limitations or unwillingness to move forward. You hold the keys to your own freedom, but it's up to you to open the lock.

#16 - The Tower

Perhaps the most dreaded card in a Tarot deck, The Tower is a representation of destruction. The Tower often comes up when everything in your life feels like its crumbling, and you have no way of stopping it. The message of this card is to just let it fall. The weakest parts of your life must be torn down in order to build something strong and sturdy in their place something that can last a lifetime.

#17 - The Star

The Star is the embodiment of hope and healing. She is a calming influence that brings messages of renewal, optimism, and inspiration. When The Star comes up in your Tarot reading, she reminds you that the universe is working in your favor and encourages you to have faith in where you are being taken.

#18 - The Moon

The Moon card is greatly connected to your subconscious. It represents the thoughts, feelings, doubts and fears that you carry internally. When The Moon arises in your Tarot reading, you may be feeling anxious, allowing these fears to override the memories of your past and your faith in the future. Do not be deceived you can't believe everything that you see, hear ... or think. If you can draw these feelings to the surface and address them, you can rid yourself of worry.

#19 - The Sun

The Sun is a powerfully uplifting card, representing happiness, joy, vitality, and optimism. When the Sun comes up in your Tarot reading, it is a positive sign that things are working well for you and that you're moving in the right direction. Lift your head and realize all the good situations and people that are surrounding you now and always.

#20 - Judgment

Judgment is a card where your past and your future come together. You are being called on to review your decisions and your actions until now, to ensure they are in line with where you ultimately want to go. The Judgment card reminds you that your future is not set in stone, and that it's never too late to make a change for the better.

#21 - The World

The World is the last card of the Major Arcana, and represents completion, success, and fulfillment. When she arises in your Tarot Reading, The World shows you that you are exactly where you are meant to be on your path. You have a greater understanding of who you are after all you've been through, and you're ready for the next phase of your journey.

Today, people most commonly use the Tarot for foretelling the future but, with imagination, its potential uses are infinite. Full of symbolism, each card is a message, a framework, a guide, and an inspiration. Its pictures represent the stages of human development and the experiences we share throughout our journey. Besides divination, the Tarot can be used for anything. In the most technical of terms, the Tarot is a deck of cards, similar to playing cards, consisting of 78 cards that split into two different sections known as the Major Arcana and Minor Arcana. There are 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana that divide into four suits: Swords, Cups, Coins (or Pentacles; or Discs), and Wands (or Rods). Each suit contains 10 cards plus four court cards which are the Page, the Knight, the Queen, and the King. Some decks use slight variations in the names associated which each card.

Tarot Superstitions

There are many different and diverse superstitions and beliefs that surround the Tarot. For some, the Tarot is a tool for divination and, for others, a way to explore their own psyches and inner selves. Some believe anyone can use the Tarot others believe you need psychic abilities to interpret them. In the same way, some may view them for entertainment purposes only while others use them to connect with the Spirit world. Whatever your beliefs are about the Tarot, they have something to offer everyone.

History of the Tarot

The possible origins and history of the Tarot vary widely in detail and imagination. However, no matter where the Tarot came from, mystical or not, its origin does not affect its capabilities.
The most widely accepted history of the Tarot is that it originated in Italy during the Renaissance period as a card game or pictorial memory game. However, since the 17th-century, people have hypothesized other origins.

Here are some fun theories of the origin of Tarot:

  • The Major Arcana cards come from ancient Egypt and their images are inscribed on a long hallway beneath the Sphinx.
  • The Romany Gypsies brought Tarot to Europe in their travels.
  • The Tarot is a surviving remnant of the lost continent of Atlantis.
  • The Tarot is what’s left of the only book to survive the burning of the library of Alexandria.
  • 13th-century alchemists created the tarot to preserve their knowledge.

Where the Tarot Began

The history of the Tarot most likely begins in Italy, but the first accounts come from records in Berne, Switzerland, 1367 detailing banned card games. It seems that the Tarot spread quickly across Europe.
Milanese tarocchi, c. 1500.
Since it was so long ago, we don’t know much about what the first cards looked like. Yet, a German text by John of Rheinfelden from 1377 describes that the decks contained 4 suits consisting of 13 cards each. The court cards were the King, Ober, and Unter and some decks included a Dames or Queen. There is no evidence of the trump (major arcana) cards until 1440 in the Italian cities of Milan, Ferrara, Florence, and Bolonga where it seems the trump cards were first introduced. They were called trionfi which became “trumps” in English. The new decks that included their version of the major arcana were known as carte de trionfi.

The Oldest Tarot Cards

Since the printing press did not exist yet, the earliest tarot decks were hand-painted which is why only a small number of them are thought to have been produced. There are no complete tarot decks from the 1400s in existence today however, individual cards from the era still remain.
A collection of incomplete tarot decks from the 15-century still exists today known as the Visconti-Sforza tarot. They are located in various museums, libraries, and private collections around the world. This collection has influenced modern tarot decks from their composition to their interpretations.
Cards from the Visconti-Sforza tarot collection
The Tarot began as a simple card game that became so much more. It is clear that they have held our fascination for a very long time. No matter its origins, or how ordinary they may seem, the Tarot’s images of today can open up our imaginations and help us access wisdom and messages from ourselves, our past down loved ones, our Spirit Guides, or anything else.

Today’s Uses for the Tarot

The Tarot evolved from a 15-century card game to a tool used by psychics, spiritualists, and enthusiasts all around the world. It has become a guide portraying human consciousness and life experiences. Most people think that the Tarot’s only purpose is to tell the future, but they are so much more than that. For me they have been a tool for healing, providing insight into my inner thoughts and feelings.
